5 Days

Poorva Karma

The Foundation Before the Cleansing

This five day programme is the first step of a profound journey. Poorva Karma is the traditional Ayurvedic preparatory phase that precedes the full twelve day Panchakarma Cleansing. It is not a lesser treatment. It is the foundation upon which everything else is built.

Over five days, the body is carefully prepared through a precise sequence of therapies: the digestive fire is strengthened, the tissues are softened, and accumulated toxins are gently loosened and mobilised. When the deeper cleansing comes, the body is ready for it. The results go further. The healing runs deeper.

Each day is held within a rhythm of intention. Daily yoga. Pranayama. Herbal therapy. Meditation. Three Ayurvedic meals at our restaurant Nalu, each one prepared according to your unique dosha. Between treatments, the grounds of Torres de Selma are yours. The silence here does its own quiet work.

Your Programme

Day 1 (Wednesday)

Arrive between 15.00 and 16.00. After check in and a gentle tour of the grounds, you will sit with your therapist to discuss your individual constitution and what your body is asking for. The first consultation shapes everything that follows. Then, meditation and yoga to begin the softening. Dinner is served at Nalu between 19.00 and 20.00.

Days 2 to 4

Your days settle into a healing sequence. Your therapist works first to strengthen your digestive fire through Deepana and Pachana, preparing the system to release what it has held. Then Snehana, internal and external oleation therapy, begins to lubricate the tissues and draw the accumulated doshas toward the digestive tract.

Day 5 (Sunday)

The morning begins with yoga, pranayama, meditation, and an Ayurvedic breakfast. Departure is by 10.00. You leave prepared. Your body has been listened to, softened, and readied for what comes next.

Before You Arrive

Begin the Shift at Home

To allow your body to respond fully to the preparatory treatments, we ask you to begin making small changes at least one to two weeks before your arrival.

Your Daily Rhythm

In the mornings, wake early and drink a glass of warm water before anything else. In the evenings, sleep at a regular time. Allow your body to find its rhythm before it arrives here.

What You Eat and Drink

Make lunch your largest meal. Eat a lighter dinner. Drink warm or room temperature water throughout the day. Let go of cold food and cold drinks. If you drink coffee, begin to reduce it now and discontinue it before you arrive. Stop eating meat one week before your programme begins. Avoid alcohol in the days before and throughout your stay.

If Your Digestion Feels Off

If your digestion already feels sluggish, eat simply. Light, warm, easy meals. Sip hot water between them. These small adjustments prepare the digestive fire before our therapists deepen the work.

Medical Considerations

If you have existing medical conditions, take prescription medication, or have had surgery recently, please gather your medical history before arriving. Your therapist will discuss it with you during your consultation on Day 1.

A Note on Panchakarma

Poorva Karma is the first of three phases in the complete Panchakarma system. The preparatory phase you experience here is followed by the main cleansing procedures (Pradhana Karma) and then by post-treatment care and rejuvenation (Paschat Karma). Many guests choose to continue directly into the twelve day Deep Ayurvedic Cleansing programme. If that is your intention, please speak with us when you book, so we can plan the sequence with care.

Panchakarma and its preparatory practices should always be carried out under the guidance of a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner. This is especially important if you have chronic health conditions, are pregnant, or are taking prescribed medication.

All programmes include accommodation, treatments as described, and Ayurvedic meals at Nalú restaurant.
